Bndg: Bound in pamphlet volume Note: Alexander Wood was the first in Britain to introduce into practice the use of the hypodermic syringe to administer drugs. In 1853 Wood successfully administered to one of his patients an injection of morphine for the relief of pain. He extended this application to other drugs and published his results in the above work. Wood was President of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh from 1858 to 1861
