Horton was agent for John Wyeth & Brother in Britain, selling Wyeth's preparations to chemists. His address was 30 Snow Hill, London.

Horton's role ended when Burroughs Wellcome & Co became sole agents for John Wyeth & Brother in Great Britain and Ireland in 1895.

The letter book contains Horton's outgoing correspondence from October 1894 to February 1895. His correspondents include doctors and chemists (to whom Horton would send samples of Wyeth products and who would also order preparations from Horton); travelling salesman (selling preparations to doctors and chemists and reporting back to Horton) and also the Wyeth & Brother office in Philadelphia (reporting back on sales in the UK; placing orders for more Wyeth's products to shipped to him). Understandably, these are the lengthiest (and arguably, most interesting) letters (eg letters on the aftermath and impact on Burroughs Wellcome & Co of the death of S. M. Burroughs).

Judging by the letters, the most popular Wyeth products are Beef Juice, Wine of Tar, hypodermic disks and their range of compressed pills. The letters also illustrate Horton's sales techniques and strategies (such as in which magazines and journals he places advertisements in).Iin this volume Horton stresses the usefulness of Wyeth's Beef Juice in combating an outbreak of Influenza.

577 pages used in the letterbook, indexed as follows. Unless stated, all addresses are London. Page numbers given. Minor remarks have been added below to notify letters of possible interest:
