In his letter Pontecorvo explained how he was enjoying his retirement and position as Honorary Consultant Geneticist at the Imperial Cancer Research Fund but that he would be interested in becoming a consultant for a short period of time, for example, "advising on the organisation of the lab for cell genetics, planning and supervising experiments, advising on programme of research, training people".
