Description

Field book of explorer John Hanning Speke annotated on the front "The route from Unyanyembe to Lake Nyanza" [Lake Victoria]. Contains a diary of the route taken by Speke from Unyanyembe back to Zungomero, 9th July - 29th December 1858. Includes Speke's latitude and longitude at each stage of the journey and observations about the terrain, the tribes who inhabit each area he passes through and the availability of provisions. Entries are in reverse chronological order.
