They also discuss Pontecorvo's research into heterokaryosis and his recently published paper on Aspergillus niger (published 1953). Raper commented on Pontecorvo's 1953 paper titled Genetics Recombination without Sexual Reproduction in Aspergillus niger,as "one which will have a continuing impact upon the fields of genetics and applied microbiology".
