About this work

Description

** The original item is too fragile to be produced and is available for consultation in microfilm.**

This and the following volumes relate to the Dartford Factory. Burroughs Wellcome & Co. briefly had its first factory site in Wandsworth, but in 1889 moved to Dartford, Kent, which remained the main production centre for the company throughout its life. It had a major influence on the area and this can be seen in these cuttings which primarily come from local newspapers.

These newspaper cuttings books chronicle the early years of the company particularly well, with the opening of the Dartford factory site and later major visits or events relating to the site included.

There are items of interest on individual employees, including senior staff. Included are references to (and articles by) the founders H S Wellcome and S M Burroughs - several of which relate to activities outside of company life (such as details from Burroughs of his travels abroad).

Staff recreation, including outings, early clubs and later the establishment of the Wellcome Club & Institute are also covered.

Each volume contains a detailed index which should be referred to in the first instance.
