Photograph of two pieces of Finiskol lashing used by Robert Falcon Scott (1868-1912) as wick for lightning during the <i>Terra Nove</i> expedition 1910-1913, mounted on display board with the caption "This wick, cut from his finiskoe lashings, was used by Scott at the end to burn in a tin, with the spirit used for lighting the primus, and so formed a lamp. It was found by his side, and was probably used to warm his hands in order to go on writing". The items were part of a polar exhibition held in the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum's central hall in July 1930 but are not held by Wellcome Collection.
