Biographical note

Emerson was a pioneer of corn genetics. At the time of writing Emerson was on leave from the Californian Instiute of Technology (where he was employed for most of his career) and working at the University of Cambridge supervising graduate students for David Catcheside, who was himself on sabbatical.
