Visitors Books

Series of books for visitors to sign were kept from 1913, forming different series for visitors to the general displays, pharmacy reconstructions and the Library. The books record name, date and address. The majority of the volumes were not titled, so it was impossible to identify which category of visitors they were recording. Visitor statistics are given in HMM and Library reports; files for exhibitions and receptions include guest and attendance lists; correspondence series include some annual 'Visitors' files of requests for, and comments on, visits. In light of this alternative source of visitor information, the series of books have been sampled, retaining only those which are identifiable or refer to an important event or exhibition. They are arranged here in two sub-groups: for the HMM and for the Library.
