Biographical note

Various members of the Pictet family, some closely related and others less so, are documented here. At the centre of the collection are Marc-Auguste Pictet F.R.S. (1752-1825), physician and natural philosopher; his brother Charles Pictet (1755-1824), politician; and the latter's son Adolphe Pictet (1799-1875), professor of aesthetics and literature.

For more detail on the relationship of the individuals documented and on the various strands of the family (Pictet de Rochemont, Pictet de la Rive, etc.), see the Dictionnaire Historique et Biographique de la Suisse (Neuchâtel, 1930), vol.5.
