About this work

Description

Correspondence regarding a wide range of invitations declined (in the main, speaking engagements).

Correspondents have not been individually listed.

Typical of Crick's response in 'refusal' letters of this period is his remark (19 June, 1973) to Dr Ruth Porter at The Ciba Foundation: "I should explain that I have been so exhausted by travelling and going to meetings that in the middle of last year I announced I would not go to anything after 1st May, 1973. Although I am not keeping to this indefinitely I feel I should try to stick to it for a year or two at least."

Note: '1973' refers to the year of correspondence rather than the engagement declined, although in most cases these are one and the same.
