Biographical note

Lederberg won a Nobel Prize in 1958 (along with Edward L Tatum and George Beadle) for discovering that bacteria can mate and exchange genes. He was also conducted extenive research in artificial intelligence and worked with NASA on exploring the possible existence of life on Mars.
