About this work

Description

The 'Red Book' was a popular promotional item produced by Coopers for customers, and, to a lesser extent, staff. All these items are based on the red book, which was sometimes in a diary format, sometimes a price list format, sometimes both, and sometimes neither (though the appearance was similar). The small size was a consistent feature. Different editions were produced for use in different countries, and a few of these survive here.

Some of the red book price lists have been catalogued with the main run of price lists for ease of use.

Books included are:

The Cooper Notebook for Stockowners, with the compliments of William Cooper & Nephews Ltd, 1927

Cooper Notebook, Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1956

The Cooper Pocket Guide, Zimbabwe, c 1985

The Cooper Notebook Centenary Edition, Australia, 1980 (with pencil)

Zakboekje voor de Veeboer [South African promotional red book], 1913

Het Zakboekje voor de Veeboer 1914 - 15 met de Komplimenten van William Cooper & Nephews [South African promotional red book], 1914 - 1915

The Stockbreeders' Blue Book, produced by McDougall & Robertson Ltd, 1925

Cooper Pocket Guide [promotional book for UK], c 1970

Some of the books have been used, and have ink or pencil notes in them.
