Haldane addresses Pontecorvo by his nickname "Crawbrigg". During this period Haldane was working at the Indian Statistical Institue in Calcutta. He also discusses his ideas on recombination and "negative interference", and not being able to recommend anyone to work alongside Pontecorvo in Glasgow.
