Biographical note
Mr. John Tomkinson, Director, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Guy's Hospital Medical School, London, was appointed Chairman of the Joint Study Group in 1973, after the resignation of Sir John Peel. Mr. Tomkinson resigned his chairmanship in 1976, after he was appointed Secretary General of FIGO.
