Biographical note
Established in the early 1960s, the ICM and International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) JSG represents a key partnership and collaborative initiative to address high maternal mortality rates in less developed countries and improve maternal and child health. Following a global survey in 1966, Maternity Care in the World, the ICM/FIGO JSG embarked on a programme of training and support for midwives to standardise midwifery training, and address specific objectives in reducing maternal mortality rates. The JSG cooperates with and receives assistance from UNICEF, WHO, IPPF, IPA.
