Biographical note
Following a meeting held on 27 October, 1978 at FIGO Office, the aim of the Ad Hoc Group meeting was to "examine the new role of International non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in respect of maternal and child health care....within the framework of primary health care." The recommendations of the Ad Hoc Group included changes to the current structure of the JSG to enable it to function in this new role, and the establishment of a new Steering Committee.
The meeting was chaired by Professor D. V. I. Fairweather, Chairman of the FIGO/ICM JSG from 1976, and included Miss Georgette Grossenbacher, Vice Chairman FIGO/ICM JSG and Liaison officer for the ICM/USAID Project, and Miss F. Margaret Hardy, ICM Executive Secretary, as Secretary of the JSG.
